5/8-(-7/8)
you multiply what is in the brackets by the negative sign.
5/8+7/8 (it is important to note that 2 negatives make a positive)
5/8+7/8=12/8
12/8=6/4
6/4=3/2
3/2 can also be written as 1 1/2
